So it is with true love. True love is like a precious valuable gem which is not found everywhere. Hence, it is very precious when it is found and secured.

Therefore, the price of acquiring the perfect love relationship must expectedly be very high in compliance with the law of demand and supply in Economics.

But are people willing and prepared to pay the price necessary to acquire true love? While it is true that many people readily appreciate true love and even marvel at those who possess it, not many persons are willing to make the necessary sacrifice for true love. It is no wonder then that true love appears to be as elusive as ever.

Looking at the subject from a spiritual perspective, though, true love is like a religion. "Don't give up on your faith. Love comes to those who believe it. And that's the way it is." So sang Celine Dion in her song titled: "That's the way it is".

Viewed from this perspective therefore, true love, like a formal religion, does not have too many adherents. Compared to the population of the world, in my own humble opinion, true love is like in a ratio of 1 to every 1,000 persons - less than 2%. Is it any wonder then that true love appears to be a fantasy nowadays?

What is the Meaning of True Love?

For the purpose of this write-up, it is pertinent to explain the meaning of true love in the simplest of all terms for everyone to comprehend.

lt is indeed unfortunate that as alluring and appealing that true love is, many persons still do not have the proper understanding of the real meaning of love.

Oftentimes, even those who say they are "in love" confuse a feeling of convenience and the act of motivation in a relationship for love. As a result of this, they find it difficult to know how to exhibit or recognise the characteristics of true love. This is truly sad. But, let me give you a little insight on love.

Basically the reason why true love is uncommon in the world today is the fact that the traditional meaning of love has become unpopular with our modern day generation. Thus, the classical school of thought hold by many people regarding love is that of a sense of duty with respect to the relationship. In other words, there is total complacency and a lack of self-sacrificing spirit by those involved in the relationship.

Contrary to the above impression that many people have about love, the true meaning of love is that of a warmth affectionate feeling which a person has towards the opposite sex based on certain endearing intrinsic qualities which that person has found in that one.

Consequently, the person "in love" may consider it difficult to find someone else possessing those endearing qualities. Conversely, he or she may even be extremely reluctant to search out these qualities in another person.

In this case, there is an emotional attachment and total commitment of those involved in the relationship. And it does not even matter that the parties to the relationship are married or not. It is this attitude that is subsequently carried over to marriage when the couples eventually get married.

So, if there is an absence of this sort of attachment by one to the other in a relationship before marriage, there is no magic anywhere that such will automatically manifest itself after marriage.
